Project 1A: SKETCHES

For the first project, we are required to pick four sites and then produce four site sketches.

There are few ascpects that needs to be portrayed in the sketches, such as:

• Solids and voids: Form, Skin, Structure

• Opening/Aperture; openness/enclosure; inside/outside; light/shadow

• Rhythm in architecture

• Details

• Textural effects/Materials

• Landscape/Setting

• Scale and proportion (Relation to human and other surrounding built environment)

The following are my sketches:

Reflection:

I have developed skills in visualization of space through observation and perception of spaces of places I have been to. Furthermore, I understood the importance of space in Architecture, and the need to space rendering in drawings. Last but not least, I have learned and have been practising the techniques of sketching to use it as a mode of communication.

Project 1B: Sketching techniques

We are required to take a picture of an object, and then produce four A4 size sketches of the picture using the techinques that we have learned in class: cross hatching, hatching, stippling and scribbling.

The following are my sketches:

REFLECTION

I have learned to produced close-up refined sketches using the four basic rendering techniques, stippling, cross hatching, hatching and scribbling. I have also learn to observe things carefully and use shadows to show depth and tonal value of drawings.

PROJECT 2A: REDESIGN FARNSWORTH HOUSE

We are given images and guidelines of Farnsworth House by Mies Van De Rohe to produce technical orthographic drawings using skills explained in tutorials. We are then required to produced, one floor plan, four elevations, two cross sectional drawings, and site plan using technical drawing tools - T-square, set square, scale ruler and technical pens - correct line weight, scale and architectural symbols.

HATCHING

STIPPLING

REFLECTION

I have learned to communicate with clarity and accuracy using line weight through different pen thickness, symbols, to present information, depth and elements on the plans and elevation as well as sections. Other than that, I have learned to ink and trace using the correct scale and techniques.

PROJECT 2B: AXONOMETRIC DRAWING OF FARNSWORTH HOUSE

We are given a choice to generate either an external exploded isonometric or axonometric drawing of the Farnsworth House following the demonstration in tutorials. We are also required to refer to the orthographic drawings - plans and elevations - and measurements as well as information provided by tutor.

The following is my axonometric drawing with exploded roof of the Farnsworth House.

REFLECTION

I have learned to express spatial ideas and architectural details using a three dimensional axonometric projection method for my design of Farnsworth House.

PROJECT 2C: PERSPECTIVE DRAWING OF FARNWORTH HOUSE

We are required to produce a one point perspective and a two point perspective drawing of the Farnsworth House using the information we have acquired after producing the orthographic and axonometric drawings.

REFLECTION

I have learned to use drawing techniques to put my picture plane, viewing angle and stationery point to produce a proper perspective drawings from my floor plan. Other than that, I have learned to use different line weights to show distance and depth on my drawing.
